Hi, I’m Rhi!
I’m an illustrator and tattoo artist from Vancouver, BC, Canada. You may know me by my former pseudonym, Maen Illustrates.
Drawing and creating art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
After originally studying to be a musician, in 2016 I made the switch to focusing on illustration, leading me to complete BCIT’s Graphic Design program in 2020.
Most recently, I completed my debut picture book, Oliver the Forest Gatherer, as both the illustrator and writer. This project is fully self-published, with every step of the project solely created and designed by myself (learning how to create an ISBN and barcode was more fun than I ever imagined) and I can’t wait to share it with the world!
Tattooing has been part of my art practice since 2012, starting with self-taught hand-poke tattoos. After tattooing in a home-based studio for many years, I began working in a private studio in 2022. Currently, I am tattooing out of Vancouver-based studio Bebop Ink on Main Street.
I am always accepting new tattoo requests for both hand-poke and machine designs.
My art style is influenced by nature, literature, folklore, Nordic design, and Japanese animation. Outside of art, I enjoy hanging out with my cat Ocha, going for walks in the forest, listening to music, and nature photography.
